Romania ranked 8th in the
Under-23 World Rowing Championship medal standings. The competition was held in
Sarasota, Florida, the United States. Romanian rowers grabbed two medals. The men’s
coxless double skull made up of Forin Lehaci and Dumitru Ciobica won gold,
while the women’s quad skull, made up of Larisa Elena Rosu, Elena Logofatu,
Nicoleta Pascanu and Tabita Maftei won bronze.


In Baku, Azerbaijan, the European
Youth Olympic Festival has come to an end. Romanian athletes aged 14-18 took
part in athletics, cycling, artistic gymnastics, handball, swimming, judo,
wrestling, tennis and volley events, namely 9 of the total of 10 competitions
available. Our delegation won 19 medals, of which 4 gold, 10 silver and 5
bronze. Georgiana Lavinia Antuca won gold in the 46-kg category,
Giorgia-Barbara Hagianu won gold in the 40-kg category in judo, while two
swimmers, David Popovici and Bianca Andreea Costea, won gold in the 100-m
freestyle event and 50-meter freestyle event, respectively.


The World Swimming Championships
have come to an end in Gwangju, South Korea. Romania failed to grab any medals,
although worth mentioning is the result obtained by Robert Glinta in the 50-m
backstroke event, where he ranked 7th. Glinta also ranked 8th
in the 100-m backstroke event.


This weekend saw matches counting
towards the 3rd round of the 2019-2020 football championship. On
Friday, Poli Iasi defeated Academica Clinceni 2-nil, while Astra Giurgiu
grabbed a 2-1 away win over FC Voluntari. On Saturday, in Medias, Gaz Metan
drew 1-all against Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe, while in Cluj the local side CFR won
1-nil against visiting side Dinamo Bucharest. On Sunday, Universitatea Craiova
won 1-nil against Chindia Targoviste at home, while Viitorul Constanta won
narrowly 3-2 against FC Hermannstadt. On Monday, FCSB will play FC Botosani.


FC Viitorul and Universitatea
Craiova rank 1st with nine points, while Dinamo Bucharest is bottom
of the table with zero points and zero goals on their record sheet.
