Romania has won three medals in the
World Juniors and Under-23 Rowing Championship that drew to a close this past
Sunday in Bascov, a locality 120 kilometers north-west of Bucharest. All three
medals were silver and were grabbed in the under-23 category. The double scull
event saw Leonid Carp and Stefan Strat winning the 1,000m and 500m races, while
in the 1,000m single canoe race Constantin Diba emerged as winner.

Tig this past Sunday won the WTA tournament in Karlsruhe, an event with 125,000
USD in prize money, In the finals Tig grabbed a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win against
Belgian challenger Alison van Uytvanck, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Tig’s win enabled the
Romanian to skip 83 positions according to the WTA rankings, climbing up from
the 223rd to 140th place.


The pair made of tennis players
Horia Tecau and Jean-Julien Rojer wasted the opportunity to win the ATP
tournament in Washington, an event with 1, 895, 290 USD up for grabs. In the
final, the Romanian-Dutch couple sustained a 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 defeat by Raven
Klaasen of South Africa and Michael Venus of New Zealand.


This past weekend saw matches being
played, counting towards the fourth round of domestic League One in football.
On home turf, Dinamo Bucharest defeated Academica Clinceni, 4-2. On Saturday,
FC Botosani drew in the home fixture against Gaz Metan Medias, 1-all. In
Ploiesti, in the south, CFR Cluj grabbed a 4-1 win against Chindia Targoviste. In
Targu Mures on Sunday, FC Hermannstadt defeated Universitatea Craiova, 2-1,
while in Sfantu Gheorghe, the local side Sepsi drew against Viitorul Constanta,
2-all. Vittorul Constanta and CFR Cluj are at the top of the table, with 10
points each. However, Viitorul has a better goal average.
