Romania
won 25 medals, including 4 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze at the latest edition
of the European Junior and Under 23 Weightlifting Championships hosted by
Bucharest. Bianca Dumitrescu was the first to win Romania’s gold medals in the junior
45 kg category in the snatch event and total. The next gold medal came from
another junior, Andreea Panciu, in the 59 kg category, in the snatch event. She
also won a bronze medal in the total event. In the under-23 championship,
Bianca Molie won a gold medal in the snatch event and two silver medals in the clean
and jerk and total events, in the 64 kg category. Romania’s goal was to win at
least five medals in this competition, which serves as a qualifying criterion
for next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

We
move on to tennis. The Romanian-Dutch pair Horia Tecău and Jean-Julien Rojer on
Sunday won the doubles final of the ATP tournament in Basel worth more than 2
million euros in prize money. Tecău and Rojer defeated the American pair Taylor
Fritz and Reilly Opelka in straight sets. They have thus secured their
qualification for the ATP Finals. This was Tecău’s 58th doubles
final in his career.
