The headline-grabbing news from sports this week is the transfer of
Romanian footballer Ianis Hagi from his Belgian club Genk to Glasgow Rangers in
Scotland. The player had been on loan to Rangers, with an option for full
transfer on the table. Gheorghe Hagi’s son scored 3 goals in 12 caps for
Rangers, including a double in the match against Sporting Braga of Portugal,
counting towards the Europa League round of 32. Rangers won the match
dramatically 3-2, after being led nil-2. Ianis Hagi has had a significant
impact on Rangers’ game since his arrival on Ibrox Park, the Rangers website
writes. Ianis quickly made his way to the fans’ hearts. The Romanian will join
Steven Gerrard’s team once training will resume for the next season. The
remaining formalities are to be settled once the summer transfer bracket opens.

Romanian
handballer Raluca Băcăoanu, a member of Romania’s national team, has
transferred from SCM Ramnicu Valcea to Gloria Bistrita. In 2019 she won the
title and the Romanian Supercup with Valcea. This season SCM was the leader in
the league tables before the epidemic broke out. The competition was
interrupted, without any medals being handed out. Previously Raluca Băcăoanu
played for CSS 1 Constanta, Unirea Slobozia and Magura Cisnadie. She has been
playing for the national team since 2017. In other news from handball, the
European Handball Federation has decided to provide Romania with an additional
spot in the men’s EHF Cup next season. The decision was prompted by CSM
Bucharest being the Challenge Cup defenders. The Federation has cancelled the
remainder of European inter-club competitions, with the exception of Champions
League for both men and women. The EHF subsequently decided to compensate
federations whose representatives were titleholders. CSM Bucharest will be the
team to occupy the vacant spot, as it ranked fifth in the domestic
championship, before being suspended due to the health crisis.
