Corona Braşov and Ferencváros Budapesta will be playing in the finals of the regional ice hockey competition Erste League, after their Sunday’s semifinal wins. Each of the two sides won on aggregate, 4-2. The semis were played after the ‘best out of seven matches’ system. In the last games, Corona Braşov defeated ACSH Gheorgheni, 6-2, in an away game, while Ferencváros clinched a 2-1 away win against Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc, in the injury time.

 

Romanian tennis player Irina Begu was outperformed by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, of Spain, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, on Sunday in the finals of the WTA 125 tournament in Antalya, a competition with 115,000 dollars in prize money. The Romanian won a check of 8,000 dollars and 81 WTA points. For Begu the tournament was her comeback to the WTA circuit after a break of seven months.

 

Also in Antalya, at the World Artistic Gymnastics Cup, Andrei Munteanu from Romania, stepped onto the podium’s third step in the bars event. Munteanu got 14.150 points after Nicolau Mir of Spain and Radomir Stemah of Ukraine. In the qualification round the Romanian got the highest number of points in this event, 14.650. Andrei Munteanu is the first Romanian qualified for the male’s contest of the upcoming Olympics in Paris.

 

Four athletes are representing Romania at the World Weightlifting Cup underway in Phuket, Thailand. Three weightlifters are competing in the women’s event: Mihaela Cambei, in the 55 kg category, Andreea Cotruţa, at 59, and Loredana Toma at 71. Valentin Iancu represents Romania in the men’s contest at 61 kg. The World Cup in Phuket is a mandatory competition in the qualification schedule for the Olympic Games. Last weekend saw the matches of the Romanian Football Superleague. At Sfantu Gheorghe in central Romania, Sepsi versus CFR Cluj ended in a one-all draw. On Saturday, Universitatea Craiova clinched a 2-1 home win against Rapid Bucharest while on Sunday FCSB secured a 1-0 win against the defending champions Farul Constanţa. FCSB tops the table 7 points ahead of Universitatea Craiova and 10 of CFR and Rapid.

 

On Friday FC Voluntari clinched a home win 1-0 against Hermannstadt. On Saturday, FC Botoşani obtained a 2-1 home win against Poli Iaşi, while Universitatea  Cluj versus UTA Arad ended in a goaless draw. On Sunday Oţelul Galaţi obtained a 2-1 win against FC U Craiova. The leg’s last match takes place on Monday and will be pitching Dinamo Bucharest against Petrolul Ploiesti.
