Two legs before the end of the play-off stage of Romania’s Football Superleague, FCSB reaped another championship title. The distance between FCSB and the side on the second position, CFR Cluj, is now of 9 points, impossible to recover in the matches left. The fight for the other positions in the ranking seems very interesting though.
CFR Cluj and Universitatea Craiova, the sides fighting for the second position, met on the former’s turf on Saturday. The match ended two-all and CFR has two points more than Universitatea, which has two points more than Universitatea Cluj on the fourth position, which conceded a 2-0 home defeat to FCSB on Sunday. The leg’s last match will be pitching Dinamo against Rapid on Monday.
In the league’s play-out stage on Friday, Unirea Slobozia outperformed Gloria Buzău, in an away game 3-0, while Sepsi clinched a 2-0 home win against FC Botoşani.
On Saturday, UTA Arad secured a 2-1 away win against Farul Constanţa, while Hermannstadt also won at home against Politehnica Iaşi, 1-0. In the leg’s last match on Monday, Petrolul Ploieşti takes on Oţelul Galaţi. Gloria Buzău has demoted to the country’s second league and three sides are struggling to avoid the last place in the ranking, which also spells demotion. Two of them, FC Botoşani and Sfântu Gheorghe, have 26 points each and the third, Slobozia, has 24. In the competition’s last leg, Unirea will be up against Sepsi and FC Botoşani will be taking on Hermannstadt in a home match.

Sunday saw the last matches of Romania’s Cup in women’s handball. The cup’s holder is CSM Bucharest, which defeated Bistriţa-Năsăud 34 – 30 in the finals. CSM’s best player was Slovenian Elizabeth Omoregie, with 8 goals scored.
