Romania has won its first medal at the World Swimming Championships currently taking place in Singapore. Constantin Popovici won bronze in the high springboard diving event. The world title went to the American James Lichtenstein, and the Spanish Carlos Gimeno won the silver medal. Popovici, world champion in this event in 2023, in Fukuoka, was the leader after the preliminary phase. Romania’s other representative, Cătălin Preda, winner of the silver medal in Fukuoka and of bronze in Doha last year, ranked fifth. The final in the 200-meter freestyle swimming event will take place on Tuesday, in which Romanian David Popovici is the Olympic champion.

The Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup took place in Cluj over the weekend. Darja Varfolomeev from Germany, the absolute Olympic champion, won the all-around event. She also won the ball competition. Ukrainian Taisia Onofriciuk won the clubs and ribbon, and Israeli Maital Sumkin was victorious in the hoop performance. Among the Romanian athletes, Amalia Lică had the best performance. She ranked fourth in the clubs and seventh in the all-around.
