The 22nd edition of the World Aquatics Championships ended in Singapore on Sunday. The event brought together over 2,500 athletes from 200 countries. Romania came tenth in the nations ranking with three medals – the gold obtained by swimmer Dapid Popovici in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle races and the bronze reaped by his namesake Constantin in the diving event.

At the European Shooting Championships hosted by the French city Chateauroux, Romania obtained two gold medals. Both these medals have been won by Peter Sidi, an athlete born in Hungary, who compelled recognition in the 300 meter standard open rifle and in the 300 meter rifle three positions. In the junior contest, Luca Joldea won gold for Romania in the 50 meter pistol event, while David Matei walked away with silver form the skeet solo event.

In Group C of the preliminaries of the 2026 European Volleyball Championships, the Romanian women’s side secured a 3-0 away win against Kosovo. Croatia tops the table with two wins out of two games, followed by Romania with two wins and a defeat and Kosovo with no wins.

Our players will be taking on Croatia in a home match on August 6. Croatia will be having their last home match against Kosovo three days later. Group winners will qualify directly for the European Championship next year together with the best five sides on the second position.

Last weekend saw the matches counting towards the fourth leg of the Romanian Football Superleague. On Friday, Farul Constanta secured a 2-1 home win against Metaloglobus while UTA Arad obtained a 2-1 victory away against Petrolul Ploiesti.

On Saturday, FC Argeş clinched a 3-1 win against Csikszereda, while in Bucharest, Dinamo managed a 4-3 victory against FCSB. Sunday’s game in Sibiu, central Romania, pitching the local side Hermannstadt against Universitatea Cluj, ended in a 2-all draw. Universitatea Craiova obtained a 3-2 win against CFR Cluj. The leg’s last games on Monday will be pitching Unirea Slobozia against Oţelul Galaţi, while Rapid Bucharest takes on FC Botoşani. Craiova and Farul are topping the table, each with 10 points.
