Gold medal for the Romanian gymnast Sabrina Voinea at the World Cup and victories for the Romanian women's handball teams in the Champions League.

The Romanian gymnast Sabrina Maneca Voinea won the gold medal in the floor event at the World Cup stage held over the weekend in Paris. Her score was 13.800 and was followed by Russian Angelina Melnikova, with 13.400 points. The bronze medal was won by Finland’s Kaia Tanskanen, with 13.366 points. In the beam and vault events, Sabrina missed qualifying for the finals.

 

The teams representing Romania in the Women’s Handball Champions League recorded victories in the games scheduled for the weekend. In Group A, on Saturday, Gloria Bistrita defeated the Hungarian team Debrecen 34 to 33, away  from home. The Dutch Larissa Nusser and the Japanese Asuka Fujita scored 9 goals each, being the most efficient players of the Bistrita team. On Sunday, in Group B, CSM Bucharest defeated another Hungarian team, Ferencváros, 31 to 28. The game was played in the Dinamo Hall. For the Romanian champion, the most goals, 8, were scored by the Slovenian Elizabeth Omoregie.

 

The Romanian Cycling Tour ended in Bucharest. The Italian cyclist Cesare Chesini came first, followed in the final standings by the Swiss Colin Stussi. The best-placed Romanian was Mattew-Denis Piciu, in 5th place, two minutes and one second behind the winner. The last stage of the Tour, the fifth, held on Sunday in the circuit in Bucharest, was won by the Polish Radoslaw Fratczak.

 

At the weekend, games were played for the ninth round of the Romanian Football Super League. On Friday, Universitatea Cluj and Rapid Bucharest drew 0-0 in Cluj. The games played on Saturday also ended with equal scores. In Arad, after being led 3-0 by FC Argeș, UTA managed to score the equalizer, ending the match with the score 3-3. Then, in Clinceni, Metaloglobus Bucharest and CFR Cluj ended in a draw, 1-1. On Sunday, FC Botoșani defeated Oțelul 1-0 in Galați, then, in Craiova, Universitatea defeated Farul Constanța 2-0. The last game of the day, held in Miercurea Ciuc between Csikszereda and FCSB, ended in a 1-1 draw. Monday sees  the last two matches of the round: Hermannstadt with Unirea Slobozia and Petrolul Ploiești with Dinamo București. Craiova leads the standings with 23 points. Rapid follows with 19. (LS)
