Young weightlifters from Romania are recording exceptional results at the European Championships in Albania.

The European Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships continue in Albania, in Durrës until Wednesday. After the first week of competitions, the Romanian athletes have won 17 medals, including four gold, five silver and eight bronze. Mihaela Cambei, in the snatch, clean and jerk and total in the 53-kilogram category for athletes under 23, and Tiberiu Donose in the junior category, the 79-kilogram category, snatch style, took the top step of the podium.
New matches took place in the Women’s Handball Champions League over the weekend. Both Romanian teams in the competition played on Sunday. In Group A, Gloria Bistrița won, in Montenegro, at Buducnost Podgorica, score 29 to 26. The most efficient scorers of the Transylvanian team were Sonia Serafinceanu and the Portuguese of Spanish origin Danila So Delgado, with seven goals each. Gloria Bistrița occupies 3rd place in Group A. In Group B, CSM Bucharest was defeated in the Dinamo Hall in Bucharest by the Danish team Odense score 36 to 30. The Slovenian player Elizabeth Omoregie scored eight goals, being the most efficient player of the Romanian champion. After six stages, CSM is in 6th place in Group B. At the end of the groups stage, the first two ranked in each group will go directly to the quarterfinals, and the teams in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th places will go to the quarterfinals play-off.
In the regional ice hockey competition Erste Liga, the Romanian team ACSH Gheorgheni, the defending champion, recorded its first defeat of the season on Sunday, after a record series of 12 consecutive victories. The team from Harghita was defeated, in Miskolc, by the Hungarian team Jegesmedvék, score 4-2. Also in Hungary, Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc defeated Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák with the score 1-0. In another match, Debrecen defeated Corona Brașov at home, score 3-2, after a penalty shootout. The team from Gheorgheni leads the standings, with 36 points from 13 games. Corona follows, with 31 points from 15 games.
At the weekend games were played in the Romanian Football Super League, counting for the 15th round. On Friday, Dinamo Bucharest defeated CFR Cluj, at the National Arena in Bucharest, 2-1. On Saturday, FC Argeș won in Clinceni, 1-0, in the match with Unirea Slobozia, and FCSB won away from home against Universitatea Cluj, 2-0. On Sunday, UTA defeated Metaloglobus, in Arad, 2-0, Oțelul Galați won the game in Sibiu with Hermannstadt, 3-1, and the match in Craiova, between Universitatea and Rapid Bucharest ended in a draw, 2-2. Monday will see the last 2 matches: Farul Constanța with Csikszereda and Petrolul Ploiești with FC Botoșani. Rapid leads the standings, one point behind second-placed FC Botoșani. (LS)
