Romanian women’s handball side, CSM Bucharest, has reached its seventh win in a row, a leg before the groups’ final stage and stands good chances of qualifying for the quarters.

Winter Olympic Games are continuing in Italy. Out of the results obtained by the Romanian athletes in the weekend, Daniela Toth came 34th in the ski jump contest while another Romanian representative, Delia Folea, came 47th. The best Romanian result so far has been obtained by its luge teams, which came ninth both in the women’s double and the mixed contests.
We continue with rugby as Romania on Sunday secured a 23-6 win against the selection of Belgium in the second leg of Rugby Europe Championship, the continent’s second contest after the Six Nations. Our rugby side will be playing Portugal in an away game at the end of the week.
The Romanian women’s handball side CSM Bucharest on Saturday secured a big win in the Champions League’s Group B: 35-30 against the Hungarians from Ferencvaros. A leg before the final of the groups’ stage, CSM is ranking third. In Group A, another Romanian side, Gloria Bistrita, clinched a 32-31 win against Debrecen and is ranking fourth in the standings. The first two sides in each group will go directly into the quarterfinals. The sides on the third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively will go into the play-offs for a place in the quarters while the teams ranking seventh and eighth are leaving the competition.
Unfortunately in the EHF European League, Group A, Minaur Baia Mare on Saturday lost to Larvik of Norway, 28 – 31, and dropped to the second position. In Group C on Sunday, Rapid clinched a 32-30 away win against Tertnes Bergen of Norway. One leg before the groups’ final, Rapid are on the first place and sure about their qualification for the quarter finals. In Group D, Corona Brașov secured a 30 -26 win against the French side Dijon, but they are ranking third. Only the two sides in each group are being qualified.
Bernadette Szőcs and Eduard Ionescu on Sunday won the mixed double of the international table tennis tournament in Chennai, India. In the finals the Romanians obtained a 3-0 win against the Indian pair Yashaswini Ghorpade / Harmeet Desai.
Last weekend saw the matches counting towards the 27th leg of the Romanian Football Superleague. On Friday in Ploiesti, Petrolul secured a 2-1 win against FC Argeș. On Saturday in Clinceni, Oțelul Galați outperformed Metaloglobus 1-0, then Universitatea Cluj obtained a 4-1 win against Csikszereda. On Sunday in Arad, local side UTA defeated Botoșani 1-2, then in Ovidiu, Farul Constanța outperformed Rapid Bucharest 3-1. On their own turf, Universitatea Craiova defeated FCSB one-nil. On Monday Hermannstadt is up against CFR Cluj and Dinamo Bucharest plays Unirea Slobozia. Craiova tops the table with 53 points followed by Dinamo and Rapid, each with 49.
