The World Rowing Under-23 Championships ended on Sunday in Duisburg, in Germany, with Romania winning a total of four medals. Bianca Ifteni won the gold medal in the women’s single sculls event, clocking in 7 minutes and 33.83 seconds and finishing nearly five seconds ahead of Ireland’s Sophia Young. In the mixed double sculls, David Costel Chitic and Stejara Olariu won the silver medal with a time of 6 minutes and 34.75 seconds, finishing just 0.49 seconds behind the Greek crew. Romania secured another silver medal in the mixed eight event with a time of 5 minutes and 52.47 seconds, behind the United States crew, who crossed the finish line in 5 minutes and 51.72 seconds. Romania’s bronze meădal was won in the men’s pair race by Patrick Francisc Sebestyen and Eduard Angel Moldovan, who clocked in 6 minutes and 32.99 seconds in the final. Greece took the win, finishing three seconds ahead, while Australia came second, 0.08 seconds ahead of Romania.

Moving on to tennis, Romanian player Radu Mihai Papoe won the ITF tournament in Bacău, worth 30,000 dollars in prize money. Papoe, who was seeded first in this competition defeated Dragoș Nicolae Cazacu in the final on Sunday with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win, thereby claiming his ninth ITF title. Also on Sunday, Ilinca Dalina Amariei won the ITF tournament in Cluj-Napoca, which had a prize fund of 15,000 dollars. In the final, the 23-year-old, who was seeded third, defeated 16-year-old Teodora Miron 6-2, 6-2, successfully defending the title she won last year in Cluj-Napoca and adding her ninth ITF tournament win to her record.

Let’s end this roundup with football. The matches counting for the second round of the Romanian Superliga were held at the weekend. On Friday in Arad, UTA and Oțelul Galați drew 2-all, while in Mioveni, FC Argeș defeated Petrolul Ploiești 1-nil. On Saturday in Ovidiu, Farul Constanța defeated Corvinul Hunedoara 2-nil, and in Bucharest, Dinamo thrashed Universitatea Craiova 5-1. On Sunday in Sfântu Gheorghe, Sepsi defeated Universitatea Cluj 1-nil, and in Miercurea Ciuc, FCSB won 2-nil against the local side Csikszereda. The final two matches of the round are scheduled for Monday: CFR Cluj vs. FC Voluntari and AFC Botoșani vs. Rapid București. FCSB top the standings with two wins.
