Denmark has won the women's EHF Euro Cup 2026, held in Bucharest.

Romania’s women’s handball team finished 3rd in the EHF Euro Cup. At the final tournament held in Bucharest, the Romanian players defeated the Hungarian team in the bronze medal match with a score of 33-30. The most goals for the team coached by Ovidiu Mihăilă, seven, were scored by Cristina Laslo. It was the Romanian team’s first victory over Hungary after a seven-year gap.
The 2026 edition of the EHF Euro Cup was won by Denmark, after overcoming Norway in the final by 34-30. On Saturday, in the semifinals, Romania was defeated by Denmark, 28-20, while Norway prevailed against Hungary, 27-23.
The competition was intended for teams that did not have to take part in the qualifiers for this winter’s European Championship, either due to their results at the previous edition or because they are among the host countries. We therefore had at the start of the tournament the national teams of Norway, Denmark, and Hungary, the top three finishers at Euro 2024, and the squads of Türkiye, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania, host nations for the Euro 2026 games.
Moving on to table tennis. Darius Movileanu won the silver medal in the men’s singles event at the international tournament held in Austria, at Linz. On Saturday, in the quarterfinals, he passed another Romanian player, Andrei Istrate, 3-1. On Sunday, in the semifinals, he prevailed against Spain’s Diego Lillo, 3-2. Also on Sunday, in the final, he led 2 -0 against Japan’s Yuta Tanaka, but the Asian athlete mounted a spectacular comeback to win 3-2.
Romanian ice hockey teams ACSH Gheorgheni, Corona Brașov, and Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc secured victories on Sunday in the regional Erste Liga competition. The squad from Gheorgheni, defending champions, edged out Újpest Budapest 1-0 in a match played at the Remetea Ice Arena. Corona Brașov prevailed on the road at DEAC Debrecen with a score of 5-2. Miercurea Ciuc won their home match against Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák 3-1 at the Vákár Lajos Ice Rink. The fourth Romanian team in the League, Fenestela 68, was defeated by Jegesmedvék from Miskolc 3-1, at the Deme László Rink in Târgu Secuiesc. Leading the standings are the teams from Gheorgheni and Brașov, tied at 10 points each, followed by Újpest with 9. (VP)
