At the European Water Polo Championships underway in Belgrade, Serbia, Romania’s side has qualified for the main groups after two wins against Slovakia and Turkey and after conceding defeat to Italy.
Our athletes will be up against Croatia on Saturday and they are hankering for a win in order to end in the first four positions of the main group F. Such a position will be sending Romania directly among the first eight sides of the European Championship, which means they are qualified for the European Championships in 2028.
We move on to handball now, as the European Championship is presently underway in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Women’s handball sides are getting ready for a fresh leg of the European inter-club contests.
Both sides representing Romania in the Champions League, are playing on Sunday; in Group A, Gloria Bistrița will be up against Danish side, Team Esbjerg, in an away game. Gloria ranks third in the group while the Danish side comes fourth. On their own turf, CSM Bucharest will be up against Krim Ljubljana in Group B. Romania’s champions are ranking fourth in the group, whereas Krim ranks seventh.
Three other Romanian sides are playing in the EHF European League, the second best continental competition. Two sides which started off on the right foot, with wins in Group A one week ago, will be meeting their opponents on Saturday. In Baia Mare, northern Romania, local side Minaur, will be up against Hungarian side Mosonmagyaróvár. Also on Saturday, in Group C, Rapid Bucharest will be up against Lokomotiva Zagreb, of Croatia. The other Romanian side in the competition, Corona Brașov, will be meeting Zaglebie Lubin in Group D in Poland.
We end with football as this weekend will be seeing the resumption of the Romanian Superleague Championship with its 22nd leg. Only one game on Friday will be pitching FC Argeș against FCSB. On Saturday, UTA meets Unirea Slobozia in a match away while in Ovidiu, on the Romanian Black Sea coast, local side Farul will be playing Hermannstadt. Romania’s capital city Bucharest will be seeing a derby opposing local sides Rapid to Metaloglobus. Three matches have been scheduled for Sunday, when Csikszereda will be playing FC Botoșani, CFR Cluj takes on Oțelul Galați and Dinamo Bucharest will be up against Universitatea Cluj. The leg’s last game on Monday will be pitching Petrolul Ploiești against Universitatea Craiova. Craiova tops the table with 40 points, followed by Rapid Bucharest with 39.
