The Romanian men's national volleyball team will face Ukraine on Sunday in Sofia in the Round of 16 of the European Championship.

The Romanian men’s handball champions, Dinamo Bucharest, secured their first point of the current Champions League season. Dinamo drew 25–25 in their away match against the Danish side Aarhus, played on Thursday as part of the competition’s Group E. In the group’s other match, Barcelona defeated Montpellier 28–27 away from home. The Catalan side leads the standings with 4 points, followed by Montpellier with 2, while Dinamo and Aarhus have one point each. In the third round, Dinamo will play another away game, facing Barcelona on October 8.
Women’s Champions League matches are taking place this weekend. On Saturday, in Group A, CSM Bucharest will play away against Borussia Dortmund, a team that has lost its first two matches of the season. Romania’s vice-champions got off to a strong start in the competition with two victories. In Group B, Gloria Bistrița will play at home on Sunday against the Danish side Odense; so far, the Romanian champions have recorded one win and one loss.
Turning to volleyball, Romania will face Ukraine on Sunday in Sofia in the Round of 16 of the Men’s European Championship. The Romanian team qualified for the knockout stage after finishing third in Group D, with matches played in Cluj. Ukraine finished second in Group B, which was held in Sofia, Bulgaria. At the previous edition of the European Championship, the Romanian team reached the quarter-finals and finished in seventh place.
Matches for the tenth round of the Romanian football Superliga are taking place this weekend. Two matches are scheduled for Friday: UTA Arad vs. Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe and Rapid Bucharest vs. FC Argeș. On Saturday, CFR hosts FC Botoșani in Cluj, followed by a match in Craiova where Universitatea faces FCSB. On Sunday, FC Voluntari hosts Universitatea Cluj, while Dinamo plays Farul Constanța in Bucharest. The final two matches take place on Monday: Oțelul Galați vs. Corvinul Hunedoara and Petrolul Ploiești vs. Csikszereda. Dinamo leads the standings with 20 points, followed by Rapid with 18. (LS)
