This weekend sees new matches scheduled in European women’s club handball competitions. In the Champions League 4th round, both Romanian teams play on Saturday against Hungary’s top squads. CSM Bucharest, Romania’s team in Group A, will be the first to take the court. The Tigresses will play away in Budapest against Ferencváros, starting at 4:00 pm local time. Currently, the Hungarian side tops the group, having won all 3 matches so far. CSM sits in fourth place, with 2 wins and one loss.
In Group B, Gloria Bistrița will play away from home at Győr, starting at 6:00 pm local time. The Transylvanian team is 3rd in the standings, with 2 wins and one loss. The Hungarian champions, last year’s Champions League finalists, hold 2nd place with 3 wins, trailing only the French side Metz. The team from Lorraine, the defending Champions League titleholders, also have 3 wins, but have a better goal difference.
In the EHF European League, the second-tier continental competition, first-leg matches of the second qualifying round are taking place, featuring two Romanian teams. On Saturday, SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea play at home against the German team TUSSIES Metzingen, starting at 3:00 pm local time. The return leg is scheduled for October 10 in Baden-Württemberg. On Sunday in Brașov, starting at 4:00 pm local time, Corona will face Red Star Belgrade. The second leg will also take place on October 10, in Belgrade. It is also worth noting that another Romanian team, Dunărea Brăila, will enter the EHF European League straight into the third qualifying round.
On Sunday, the National Ice Hockey Championship derby between Corona and ACSH Gheorgheni takes place in Brașov. The match also counts towards the regional Erste Liga competition, where the Harghita-based team currently holds first place, with Corona in second.
