The Romanian men’s handball club Dinamo Bucharest
once again took a wrong turn in the Champions’ League. Spanish coach Xavier
Pascual’s team was defeated, away from home, by the Hungarian team Veszprem, 47
– 32. It was one of the most terrible beatings for the Bucharest side in the
history of its participation in European handball competitions.

Also in the League’s Group B, on Wednesday
Motor Zaporoje won against Flensburg-Handewitt, 31-22. On Thursday, Barça beat Porto,
38 – 31 and Paris Saint-Germain won 32 – 27 against group leaders, Lomza Vive
Kielce. Dinamo remains last placed in the group, and is to play next against Motor
Zaporoje, at home, on December 9.

In football, Universitatea Craiova Thursday
qualified into Romania’s Cup semis. Craiova won at home against 3rd-league
team ACSO Filiași, 3-nil. The Bosnian player Elvir Koljic scored first on 24
minutes, and 5 minutes later Andrei Ivan turned the score to 2-nil. Brazilian
player Gustavo scored the last goal in the second half.

Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe, FC Voluntari and FC
Argeş are the other semi-finalists. On Tuesday Sepsi beat Chindia Târgovişte 2-1,
in Ploiești, and FC Voluntari won against second-tier team FC Buzău, 1-0. On Wednesday,
FC Argeş defeated Poli Timișoara, 5 – 4, after penalty shoot-outs.

This weekend matches counting towards the 18th
leg of Romania’s top football championship are scheduled. After Friday’s game
pitting Academica Clinceni against Dinamo Bucharest, on Saturday Chindia
Târgoviște takes on CFR Cluj, and Rapid Bucharest on Farul Constanța. On Sunday,
CS Mioveni plays against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe, FC U Craiova against FC
Voluntari and FCSB takes on UTA Arad on National Arena in Bucharest. On Monday,
FC Argeș plays against Gaz Metan Mediaș and FC Botoșani against Universtatea
Craiova.

CFR Cluj top the current standings with 45
points, followed by FCSB, with 37. (tr. A.M. Popescu)
