Food Price Monitor platform, launched in Bucharest
The Competition Council has launched in Bucharest the Food Price Monitor platform.

A Food Price Monitor platform has been launched in Bucharest, aimed at helping Romanians compare the price of food products sold in various stores. The platform allows consumers to compare more than 30,000 products sold by 1,700 stores in the country, which is half of the food products sold across Romania. Information on food prices is available at www.monitorulpreturilor.info, where fuel prices are also listed.
The Competition Council expects prices to drop after the launch of the platform, to the level of prices in cheaper stores. Head of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chiritoiu, explains: “The platform is an instrument that keeps consumers informed on the prices and the stores where the products they want can be found at the smallest prices. We expect competition to grow and force expensive stores adjust their prices to the level of cheaper stores. Consumers can select the product they want and see where it sells at the smallest price.”
Also, the first store of the Unirea Agri-food Trade House was launched in Sibiu, on October 7. The store sells mainly cheese products, coming from the abundant production in the region. The new state-owned company will establish several platforms for collecting agricultural products from small farmers, but also a series of agricultural clusters that will supply a large part of the domestic demand from local resources.
The company offers Romanian producers collecting centers and a distribution network. Such stores are soon to be opened in Pitesti, Slatina, Craiova and Timisoara. The company’s representatives plan to open a chain of 60 such stores all across Romania.
