On Sunday, September 28, the citizens  of the Republic of Moldova went to the  polls to elect the 101 members of Parliament.  Voters were able to vote in 2,274 polling stations, opened throughout  the Republic of Moldova and abroad.

The preliminary results are available in real time HERE.

Polling stations in the Republic of Moldova closed at 9:00 p.m., when the voter turnout exceeded 1,593,000,  that is 51.94%. Of the total of 1.59 million voters, 1.32 million cast their votes on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and over 260,000 at the  polling stations opened abroad.  29,379 people voted at  the 23 polling stations opened in Romania.

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, sent a message of gratitude to the citizens who participated in the parliamentary elections on September 28: “Thank you to Moldovans at home and in the diaspora for participating in the vote! In Moldova, the polling stations closed at 9:00 PM, but in some countries the polling stations are still open. Go vote!”, Sandu wrote on her page.

In her message, the president recalled that the electoral process continues abroad and encouraged Moldovans living abroad to take advantage of the remaining time to exercise their right to vote.

The National Police of the Republic of Moldova warns  the country could face protests as of Sunday night.  Furthermore,  police officials issued a statement on Sunday evening announcing that “there is information about some groups of people who intend,  as from Sunday midnight to Monday, to organize destabilizing actions in the city of Chisinau”.

“We would like to point out that the law enforcers will not tolerate violations of the law, disruption of public order, endangerment of citizens, or endangerment of national security.”  The police remind the organizers that they are responsible for  the events  and urge citizens to analyze their decisions and actions and not to accept  involvement in illegal actions with a high risk of criminal liability.
