Romania has a huge tourist potential, and over the last few years, many websites and specialized magazines all over the world have launched invitations for foreign tourists to discover places and traditions in Romania. The relevant authorities and Romanian travel agencies are trying to make the most of this propitious moment in order to bring the highest number of tourists possible into the country.

Romania is right now promoting its tourist sites at fairs all over the world. One priority for 2016 for the National Tourist Authority (NTA) and the National Association of Travel Agencies (NATA) is to attract the highest number possible of Russian tourists, as an alternative to Turkey and Egypt, two destinations that have fallen out of favor with them due to recent developments.

Romanian officials in the tourism field and travel agencies visited, in January, the Russian Federation to present their offer. Romania’s advantages are in line with what interests Russian tourists, namely health destinations, fitness and wellness packages, as well as rehabilitation and recovery offers.

Another side that was promoted was business tourism, cultural tours, as well as fishing and hunting. These days, Romania is present at the international tourism fair for the Mediterranean Sea area, taking place in Israel, which is the country in second place in terms of tourists coming to Romania. Last year, almost 220,000 Israelis came to Romania, their preferred destinations being Bucharest, the Black Sea coast, and the Danube Delta.

This tourism fair had a conference called ‘Romania — 365 days to explore the Garden of the Carpathians’, aimed specifically at Israeli tourists and travel agencies. The proposed targets for tourists were Transylvania, which the Lonely Planet guide designated Best Region to Travel in 2016, Targu Jiu, the city that is home to the masterpieces created by Brancusi, as well as the resorts on the Prahova Valley.

One special opportunity for Romania, in terms of active and adventure tourism, cultural tourism and circuits, is Poland, another growing and dynamic market. For this reason, this week Romania presents its offer at the Poznan Tour Salon. It will be promoting Transylvanian cities, such as Brasov, Sibiu and Sighisoara, as well as the areas of Maramures and Bukovina, and also the Danube Delta.

The event involves wine tasting, interactive workshops for Romanian crafts, and prize winning contests. 15 Romanian companies attending the Milan International Tourism Fair promote key destinations for the Italian market, such as cultural circuits in Transylvania and Bukovina, city breaks, rural and active tourism, and nature exploration.
