Running second is the “Patriotic Bloc”, made up of pro-Russian parties, with only 24.3% of the votes, followed by the “Alternative” Electoral Bloc, led by the Mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, who is banned from traveling to Romania and the European Union. The pro-Europeans’ victory comes at the end of a campaign during which the authorities and the press denounced massive interference from the Russian Federation, in an attempt to influence the outcome of the vote.
The Moldovan citizens who went to the polls opened in Romania on Sunday, mostly young people, have said they want a better future for their country. They hope that, after the elections, the Republic of Moldova will irreversibly move towards Europe.
In Bucharest, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan sent a message of congratulation to the Moldovan voters for their mobilization in the parliamentary elections and to the authorities in Chisinau for the exemplary way in which they organized the election, reiterating that the Republic of Moldova belongs in the great European family.
Presidential advisor Radu Burnete has also sent a message, showing that Eastern Europe will demonstrate to Russia, despite the war and propaganda, that a historical cycle ended in 1989 and a definitive step forward into the Western space was taken back then.
