The Romanian PM Dacian Cioloş has encouraged the American investors to come to Romania and has presented the country’s economic potential. On Wednesday, the last day of his visit to the US, the Romanian PM met with the head of the U.S. Department of Energy, Ernest Moniz, and with representatives of the American business environment. The meetings were meant to contribute to the development of bilateral economic relations starting from the Strategic Partnership established by the two countries. On Tuesday PM Cioloş was received at the White House by the US vice-president Joseph Biden who reiterated Washington’s support for strengthening military cooperation at the Black Sea under the NATO aegis. The Romanian premier has also met with representatives of the Romanian community in Washington.
The Romanian secretary of state for strategic affairs, Daniel Ioniţă, on Wednesday met with general James Jones, the president of the Brent Scowcroft Center for international security within the US Atlantic Council. According to a communiqué of the Romanian Foreign Ministry, Daniel Ioniţă highlighted the ‘excellent’ cooperation between Romania and the US in the political, military and security fields, cooperation developed under the Strategic Partnership framework. The Romanian official appreciated the US’s engagement in the European security. As regards the security of the Black Sea area, the Romanian official underlined the need for the American politicians to keep their focus on this region ‘in order to maximize cooperation opportunities and reduce the impact of risk factors’.
Supplying cheap and efficient medicines and reducing hospital -acquired infections are some of the priorities of the new Romanian health minister, Vlad Voiculescu. He said he intended to use European funds to build three regional hospitals in Iasi, Cluj and Craiova. Vlad Voiculescu is thus trying to regain Romanians’ trust in the medical system.
The plenary session of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, whose presidency is held by Romania from March 2016 to March 2017, is taking place in Bucharest as of Thursday. For 3 days, more than 200 experts and government representatives from 31 member states of the Alliance, 10 observer states and 7 partner international organizations are discussing policies and projects in the field of education, research and the Holocaust remembrance from the prospect of their contemporary political relevance.
On Wednesday evening Romania’s national football team drew the match against the team of the Congo 1-1, in Como, Italy. This was a training match preceding the European Football Championship to be hosted by France next month.
