The Social Democratic Party (PSD) won the parliamentary elections in Romania.

PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS – The Central Elections Bureau has announced the partial results of Sundays parliamentary elections, following the counting of almost 100% of the votes. Thus, the left-wing Social Democratic Party (PSD) has won a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections, with around 45.5% of the votes, followed by the National Liberal Party (PNL) with 20%, the Save Romania Union (USR) with almost 8%, the Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) with almost 7%, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) with 5.5%-6% and The Peoples Movement Party (PMP) with 5.2% – 5.3%.

The Social Democrats leader, Liviu Dragnea, has said that any alliance with PNL, USR and PMP is out of the question but he has not ruled out a possible alliance with UDMR. Todays vote shows Romanians clear option, Dragnea said on Sunday. Romanians have voted for economic growth, more money in their pockets, smaller taxes and duties, support for the business people, well-paid jobs for the young people, for the rebirth of the Romanian rural areas and for food produced by their own land, Dragnea has also said. Todays vote shows us that Romanians want to feel at home in their own country and I want Romania to be a good home for all Romanians, the PSD leader has concluded.

The voter turnout in this years parliamentary elections was of approximately 40%. More than 106,000 Romanians voted abroad.
