In the Romanian Football Super League, decisive games are taking place at the end of this week to win the championship and avoid relegation to the second league.

The Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea failed to qualify for the final of the WTA 1,000 tournament in Rome, with total prizes of 7,228,080 euros, after being defeated on Thursday by Coco Gauff, 6-4, 6-3. Sorana led in the first set 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2, but the American player came back and won 6-4. In the second set, Gauff started better, she had 2-0, Cîrstea leveled the score, 2-2, but the US player took control again and won 6-3. Sorana will be left with a check of 289,115 euros and 390 WTA points for her performance at Foro Italico, where she achieved the best result of her career so far. In the other semifinal, the Ukrainian Elena Svitolina defeated the Polish Iga Swiatek 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
At the end of this week, games counting for the semifinals of the National Men’s Basketball League will take place. On Saturday, the second game of the confrontation between SCM “U” Craiova and U-BT Cluj-Napoca will take place in Craiova. In the first game, on Thursday, the Transylvanian team won 85 to 75. On Sunday and Tuesday, two semifinal games between Dinamo and CSM CSU Oradea will take place in Bucharest. After the first two meetings, held on the Bihor players’ court, the score is equal, 1-1. The semifinals will take place according to the “best of five games” system.
This weekend, matches are scheduled in the final phase of the Romanian Football Super League, stage number 9. In the play-offs, where the fight is mainly for the championship title and presence in European competitions, this is the penultimate stage. The first match, on Friday will pit FC Argeș against Rapid București. On Saturday, Dinamo faces CFR Cluj in Bucharest, and on Sunday, Universitatea Craiova plays Universitatea Cluj. The Craiova team occupies first place in the standings, one point ahead of the Cluj students. In the play-out, this stage is the last and will clarify the list of teams that will head to the second echelon. On Saturday, Csikszereda faces FC Botoșani in Miercurea Ciuc, in a no-stakes game. The other matches take place on Monday, simultaneously at 8.30 p.m.: Farul Constanta with Metaloglobus, in Ovidiu, Petrolul with Oțelul Galați, in Ploiești, Unirea Slobozia with UTA, in Slobozia, and Hermannstadt with FCSB, in Sibiu. Metaloglobus is already relegated. To avoid the other place that leads directly to the second echelon, the fight is between Unirea Slobozia and Hermannstadt, tied on points, 22. Above them, in the standings, in the fight to avoid the play-off places are Petrolul and Farul, both with 25 points each. (LS)
