Romanian Footballer Razvan Marin
A Romanian was among the most appreciated footballers of the Champions League last week

Romania has again failed to bring an eleven to this year’s edition of the Champions League, Europe’s main club competition. At individual level, only two Romanian footballers have made it to the aforementioned competition, they are, Dennis Man of PSV Eindhoven and Răzvan Marin of AEK Athens. In the competition’s leg last week, Man was a substitute in the match his champion side ended in a one-all draw against the Ukrainians from Shaktaar Donetsk. Răzvan Marin played for the Greek champions in the match they won against the Austrian side, LASK Linz, one-nil. The Romanian became the hero of his side after scoring the game’s single goal from a penalty shot. Marin was one of the most appreciated players of that leg and for his performance, Radio Romania International has designated him Athlete of the Week.
Răzvan Marin was born in Bucharest on May 23rd 1996. His father, Petre Marin played in Romania’s first football league for famous sides, like Sportul Studentesc, FC Național and Steaua Bucharest and won 9 caps for the Romanian national side. His son, Razvan took up football at the Bucharest club, Pro Luceafărul. He continued at the Gheorghe Hagi Football Academy and made his debut in the championship at Viitorul Constanța for which he played from 2013 until 2017. Then he joined Belgian side Standard Liège and then the famous Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, which lent him to Italian side Cagliari. Then he went to Empoli, and in July 2025, he became part of his present side AEK Athens. Răzvan won his first cap for the Romanian national side in August 2016 for a match in the World Cup preliminaries against Montenegro. On October 8th, 2016 he was part of the Romanian lineup, which clinched a 5-0 win against Armenia, scoring one goal. He has played in 75 matches for the Romanian national eleven for which he scored 12 goals.
