Romania’s men’s volleyball team qualified for the European Championship quarterfinals. In a round of last 16 match held in Sofia on Sunday, they defeated Ukraine 3-nil. On Tuesday, they will face France, the reigning Olympic champions, for a place in the semifinals. The two teams also met during the group stage in Cluj, with Romania winning 3-2. At the previous edition of European Championship, in 2023, Romania reached the quarterfinals and finished in 7th place.
Romania’s men’s tennis team defeated Indonesia 4-0 in Jakarta. The match was part of the Davis Cup World Group II Round 1. Following this win, Romania will compete in the World Group I play-offs next February. Romania’s opponent has not yet been determined, with the International Tennis Federation expected to officially announce the draw date and seeding pots anytime soon.
In table tennis, the pair made up of Eduard Ionescu and Darius Movileanu won the doubles event at the Star Contender Astana 2026 international tournament hosted by the capital of Kazakhstan and worth 300,000 dollars in prize money. In the final, the all Romanian pair defeated Russia’s Nikita Artemenko and Denis Ivonin 3-1.
In women’s handball: matches for the third round of the Champions League took place over the weekend. On Saturday, in Group A, CSM Bucharest lost 35-32 by Borussia in Dortmund. The Romanian side were leading 20-13 at halftime and even extended their lead to nine goals early in the second half. In Group B, on Sunday, Gloria Bistrița defeated the Danish side Odense 29-27 at home. After three rounds, both Romanian teams have two wins and one loss.
Matches for the tenth leg of the Romanian football Superliga took place at the weekend. On Friday in Arad, UTA defeated Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe 1-nil, while in Bucharest, Rapid won 3-1 against FC Argeș. On Saturday in Cluj, CFR beat FC Botoșani 3-1, and in Craiova, Universitatea secured a convincing 5-0 win over FCSB. On Sunday, Universitatea Cluj won 2-nil against Voluntari, and in Bucharest on the National Arena, Dinamo defeated Farul Constanța 4-nil. The final two matches of the round are schedulef for Monday: Oțelul Galați vs. Corvinul Hunedoara and Petrolul Ploiești vs. Csikszereda. Dinamo lead the standings with 23 points followed by Rapid with 21 and Craiova with 20.
