Radio Romania celebrated its 98th anniversary through music. After an eight-year break, Radio Romania Music Awards Gala took place on Monday at the Radio Concert Hall. The event, presented by soprano Irina Baianţ and actor Adrian Nour, brought together well-known names in Romanian music. Awards were granted for best song, best albums and best artist in Romanian music, based on the charts and preferences of the public radio stations. The vibe was evident from the moment the nominees entered the foyer of the Radio Concert Hall, where they were welcomed on the red carpet, in front of photographers and television cameras. On stage, the awards were handed out by special guests, performers, composers, musical personalities and producers of the public station’s programs. Throughout the evening, orchestral accompaniment was provided by the Radio Romania Big Band, conducted by Simona Strungaru. The 14 trophies themselves were superb original crystal creations with silver inlays designed by the well-known visual artist Ioan Tămâian. The project manager, Laurenţiu Calomfirescu, mentioned some of the awards granted:
“The first award we gave last night was the debut award, as usual. Daria Lupi was the winner of this award. A very good voice and we were really happy that she came and had an extraordinary performance. We also gave the award for artist of the year, The Urs, again a very good voice and performance. Best performer award went to The Motans, the album of the year to Lidia Buble and song of the year to Misha Miller, who unfortunately could not come with Alex Velea, but I suspect that Alex Velea was with her in spirit.”
The award for best pop song was given to Irina Rimes for the song Să nu uiți ca te-am iubit (“Don’t forget I loved you”), and the excellence award was given to Simona Strungaru, the conductor of the Radio Big Band. The Audience Award went to artist Alexia, following the votes cast on the event’s official website, www.premiilemuzicaleradioromania.ro.
Radio Romania, the most significant payer of copyrights in Romania, thus rewarded the most important artists of the day, some of whom came from the neighbouring Romanian-speaking Republic of Moldova. In fact, the Moldovan-born artists dominated the main categories of the evening, winning the most coveted trophies of the Romanian music industry. In this edition, the Radio Romania Music Awards brought to the fore established artists and new names, highlighting the diversity of Romanian music, from pop and rock to folk, jazz and alternative. The awards gala was financed with the support of the General Secretariat of the Government, a partnership that supports the visibility and continuity of Romanian artistic production.
