The European Athletics Federation
says it is considering postponing the European Outdoor Championships scheduled
to take place in Paris between the 25th and the 30th of
August. The federation says in a statement that it has asked the competition’s
organising committee to carry out a detailed study as soon as possible to
assess if it is feasible to hold the event.

Moving on to news from football, the
FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber has ruled that the Romanian football club FCSB
must pay the Polish player Lukasz Gikiewicz the sum of 93 thousand five hundred
euros (93,500). Gikiewicz signed a contract with FCSB last summer but was
sacked in autumn, after only three matches. The Polish player then filed a
complaint with FIFA against the club. FCSB must pay the sum owed by 11th
May 2020 or face a ban on transfers for the following three seasons: the summer
of 2020, January 2021 and the summer of 2021. The payment cannot be postponed
on grounds of the coronavirus outbreak, according to the Romanian sports
website gsp.ro.

In other news from football, the
Italian club Lazio has shown an interest in the Romanian player Ianis Hagi,
according to the sports journal Corriere dello Sport. The Rome-based
club is willing to make an offer to the Belgian side Ghent for Hagi’s permanent
transfer to Serie A, the first tier of Italian football. At this moment, Hagi
is on loan to Glasgow Rangers, who have first option to sign him, but must pay
the Belgian side 5 million euros. The loan expires on 30th June.
Since he began playing in Scotland, Hagi has scored three goals and made two
decisive passes in all the 11 matches played for the Glasgow Rangers. Despite
this, write the Bucharest sports media, the Scottish side don’t seem tempted to
pay the amount needed for Hagi’s permanent transfer. (Tr.: CM)
