Romanian athletes walked away with four medals from the
European Wrestling Championships the Hungarian capital Budapest hosted last
week. In women’s competitions, Andreea Ana became the gold medalist in the 55-kilogram
category, while Alina Vuc and Kriszta Incze reaped bronze in the 50 and 65
kilogram categories. Nicu Ojog won silver in the 87-kilogram category of the men’s
Greek-Roman contest.




The Romanian women’s side Minaur Baia Mare on Sunday
qualified for the semifinals of the EHF European League. The Romanian side
ended in a 29-all draw their second game against Norwegian side Sola in the quarter
finals. At home Minaur had clinched a 40-32 win.




Romania’s second side in the European League, SCM Ramnicu
Valcea was stopped in its tracks by the aggregate win of Danish side Herning
Ikast, 39-33 at home and 33-28 in Denmark on Saturday. Danish side Viborg and
German team Bietigheim have also qualified for Final Four. Last year the city
of Baia Mare, in northern Romania, hosted the competition’s final tournament
won by French side Nantes Atlantique while local side Minaur came third.




Last weekend saw the matches of the third leg of Romania’s
first football league. On Friday, FC U Craiova versus CS Mioveni ended in a
draw, one-all. Then in Ploiesti, southern Romania, Dinamo Bucharest clinched a 2-nil
win against Chindia Targoviste. On Saturday, in Arad, Western Romania, local
side UTA obtained a clear 4-0 win against Gaz Metan Medias while in Bucharest
on their new stadium local side Rapid obtained a 3-0 win against FC Botosani.




On Saturday FC Voluntari defeated Farul Constanţa 1-0 while
on Sunday in one of the leg’s most important games, Universitatea Craiova secured
a 2-0 away win against FCSB. CFR Cluj ranks first in the standings with 42 points
followed by FCSB with 37 and Universitatea Craiova with 33.
