Romanian tennis player Simona Halep will be world number one in WTA standings at the end of 2018. In the event she stops playing until the end of the year, Halep cannot be toppled by any other player. The only threat to Halep’s supremacy at the top of the standings, Germany’s Angelique Kerber, lost in the round of 16 at the Beijing Open. We recall Simona Halep might miss the last two competitions in the WTA schedule, namely the Moscow tournament, to take place over October 15 and 21, as well as the WTA finals in Singapore, slated for October 21-28. Halep on Sunday withdrew from the first round in Beijing, in a match against Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur after only 32 minutes of play, troubled by lower-back pain. Simona Halep announced earlier this week she has a herniated disc, adding however that surgery is out the question and she is due to observe a strict treatment involving exercise and physiotherapy.

The IDM Bucharest International Bowling Open will come to a close on Sunday, the only international bowling open hosted by Romania. Having reached its ninth edition, the competition was held under the aegis of World Bowling and the European Tenpin Bowling Federation. The Bucharest Bowling Open brought together over 150 competitors from 17 countries, with total prizes standing at some 22 thousand euros.

This weekend will see matches counting towards the 11th round of the Romanian First Football League. On Friday, Politehnica Iasi is playing Viitorul Constanta. On Saturday, Universitatea Craiova will play FC Hermannstadt at home, while Astra Giurgiu will play CFR Cluj. On Sunday, Dunarea Calarasi will play FC Voluntari, Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe will go up against visiting side Gaz Metan Medias, while the last match of the day will pit FCSB against Concordia Chiajna. The round will end on Monday, with FC Botosani playing Dinamo Bucharest.

FCSB tops the league tables with 21 points, followed by Astra Giurgiu, CFR Cluj and Gaz Metan Medias, each with 17 points.
