On the final day of the
World Polo Championships in Budapest, the Romanian men’s team lost to Germany
12-10 at the penalty shoot-out. Romania also lost the previous three matches
played against Serbia, Hungary and Spain, respectively. This was the final
tournament played by the Romanian team ahead of the European Championship,
scheduled to take place over January 4-16 in Dubrovnik and Zagreb, Croatia.
Romania was drawn in Group D alongside Slovakia, the Netherlands and Slovenia.

In news from men’s volley,
in Champions League Group E, Arcada Galați lost away from home to Greenyard
Maaseik of Belgium, 3-1. In the other group fixture, Civitanova of Italy won
against Lvi Prague of the Czech Republic 3-0. Civitanova tops the league tables
with 4 wins, followed by Greenyard Maaseik with two wins, Lvi Prague and
Arcada, each with one win. On January 9, the Romanian champions will play
Civitanova at home, while on January 11 Lvi Prague will take on Greenyard
Maaseik on home turf.

This weekend will mark the
last round of the football season before the winter break. On Friday, Oțelul
Galați is playing FC Botoșani, while Dinamo Bucharest will go up against FC
Voluntari. Earlier, on Tuesday, FCU Craiova 1948 won 2-0 against Petrolul
Ploiești, while FCSB won 3-1 against Politehnica Iași away from home. On
Wednesday, UTA Arad drew 2-2 against Universitatea Craiova, while the match
pitting Farul Constanța against Rapid Bucharest ended in a blank draw. On
Thursday, in Sibiu, FC Hermannstadt drew 1-1 against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe. In
the round’s highlight match, CFR Cluj won 4-0 against Universitatea Cluj. FCSB
tops the league tables with 44 points, followed by CFR Cluj with 36 points and
Universitatea Craiova with 34 points. Matches will resume on January 19. (VP)
