The
Romanian national football side drew 1-all against Norway on Tuesday. The match
was held in Bucharest in Group F of the 2020 European Championships qualifiers.
Following a disciplinary penalty imposed by UEFA, the match could only be
attended by children under the age of 14 and the adults accompanying them. So,
27,000 children came to watch the match, which is a new world record.

Romania
played well but Norway were always in control of the match. Romania missed a
number of good chances, including a penalty kick on the 52nd minute
by George Puscas. Romania did manage to score ten minutes later, when Alexandru
Mirita regained possession of a ball cleared by Norway’s goal keeper Rune
Jarstein, moved towards goal and scored with his left foot. Norway scored the
equalizer in the second minute of extra time, when Alexander Sorloth scored a
header following a pass from Mathias Normann.
Let us also note that in their first match against Norway held in Oslo
in June, Romania drew 2-all. Romania have now failed to win against Norway for
seven consecutive matches, including five draws and two defeats. In fact,
Romania last defeated Norway in 1968, when they won 3-1.

Also
on Tuesday, Sweden drew 1-all against Spain in Solna, which means Spain are now
sure to qualify for the European Championships next year. Sweden are second in
Group F, with one point more than Romania. To have any chances of making it to
Euro 2020, Romania have to win their next match against Sweden either by 1-nil
or by a 2-goal difference. The match will be held in Bucharest on the 15th
of November. If they manage this, Romania will then have to at least draw in
their following match, which is against Spain in Madrid on the 18th
of November, at the same time as Sweden face the Faroe Islands at home.
