On Tuesday and Wednesday the Champions League saw the first leg of the groups’ fixtures. On Tuesday FC Barcelona crushed Celtic Glasgow in a home game, which was umpired by Romanian Ovidiu Hategan assisted by an all-Romanian team made up of Octavian Sovre, Sebastian Gheorghe, Radu Petrescu, Sebastian Coltescu and Radu Ghinguleac.

Bulgaria’s champions Ludogoret Razgrad held FC Basel to a one-all draw in an away match. Romanian fullback Cosmin Moti played all throughout the game but striker Claudiu Keseru didn’t become part of the Bulgarian lineup and his debut in the Champions League has thus been postponed.

Midfielder Andrei Prepelita played against Bayern Munich. He was sent to the pitch on minutes 64 but the Romanian failed to make the difference for his side FC Rostov who lost the game five-nil.

On Wednesday on Santiago Bernabeu stadium, trophy holders Real Madrid were given a good run for their money by Sporting Lisbon, in a match that ended two-one to the hosts. Bruno Cesar put Lisbon into the lead two minutes into the second half. Ronaldo’s free-kick got Madrid back on level terms on 89 minutes, while Alvaro Morata sealed the points for the hosts in the extra-time.

Also in group F Borussia Dortmund hammered Legia Warsaw in an away fixture to a six-nil victory, while Manchester City obtained a comfortable four-nil win against Borussia Monchengladbach in a fixture that should have been played on Tuesday but was postponed due to heavy downpours.

Leicester City has claimed a three-nil win against Belgian side Bruges in the Champions League debut.

Juventus Turin ended in a nil-all draw their game against FC Seville, while Olympique Lyon clinched a three-nil win against Dinamo Zagreb, whose lineup went to the pitch without Romanian fullback Alexandru Matel.
