This weekend will see matches counting towards European inter-club handball competitions. Romania’s hopes are tied to the Champions League debut of Romanian champions CSM Bucharest. On Saturday, the Romanian women’s team will take on Krim Mercator of Slovenia in Group A, which also includes Nykobing Falster Handboldklub of Denmark and Vistal Gdynia of Poland.

This weekend will see matches counting towards European inter-club handball competitions. Romania’s hopes are tied to the Champions League debut of Romanian champions CSM Bucharest. On Saturday, the Romanian women’s team will take on Krim Mercator of Slovenia in Group A, which also includes Nykobing Falster Handboldklub of Denmark and Vistal Gdynia of Poland.
CSM Bucharest has this year signed in three world-class players: Cristina Neagu, designated Player of the Year 2016, Amanda Kurtovic and Marit Malm Frafjord, both regulars of Norway’s first team and winners of multiple European, world and Olympic titles and finally Nathalie Hagman of Sweden, silver medalist at the 2010 European Championships and bronze medalist at the European Championships of 2014.
CSM also has a new coach, Helle Thomsen of Denmark, who is also head coach for the Netherlands. Last year with Thomsen at their helm the Dutch reached the finals of the European Championships hosted by Sweden.
In the men’s competitions, Romania’s representative in the Champions League, Dinamo Bucharest, will play their fourth fixture on Sunday. Dinamo will play Elverum Handball of Norway away from home. The team from Bucharest is currently ranked 6th in Group C, with only a win in three games. Last week Dinamo won narrowly 29-28 against Kadetten Schaffhausen of Switzerland. Previously Dinamo had lost 28-39 to Skern Handbold of Denmark and 26-27 to the Group leader, Gorenje Velenje of Slovenia.
Also in men’s handball let us also note that this weekend will also see a new round of the EHF Cup. On October 7, CSM Bucharest will go up against SKA Minsk of Belarus. Romania’s other representative in the EHF Cup, Dobrogea Sud Constanta, will play the double-leg against BSK Handball Elite of Norway on home turf next week.
