FC Voluntari managed to remain in Romania’s first football league
after a play-off win against Chindia Targoviste. Voluntari won the away
play-off match in the penalty shoot-out. Voluntari had secured a one-nil
victory in the first match but Denis Ciobotariu leveled the points for Chindia
in the 67th minute of the second match. Florin Cernat, Laurentiu
Marinescu and Mircea Leasa scored three times for the visitors in the penalty
shootout. Chindia missed three shots, two of them being deflected by goalie
Mihai Dinca.

Voluntari had also won a play-off to remain in the first football
league in 2016 when they outperformed UTA. Chindia blew their chances to come
back to the first stage of the Romanian football after an absence of 20 years.
Two second-leaguers, Dunarea Galati and FC Hermannstadt have joined the fist
football division, while Juventus Bucharest and Poli Timisoara have been
demoted.

Edward Iordanescu is the new headcoach of the national football
champion CFR Cluj. He was introduced on Wednesday by the club’s president Iuliu
Muresan who also announced the signing of a three-year contract. Muresan has
thus replaced Dan Petrescu who is currently training Chinese side Guizhou
Hengfeng. Iordanescu told a news conference that his contract with Cluj honors
him and that he wants to consolidate the lineup Petrescu put up at CFR.

Over
June 17th and 27th CFR is training in Brasov, central
Romania for the new football season. CFR’s Kevin Boli has been transferred to
the Chinese side coached by Petrescu in exchange for 2.7 million euros.
According to Digisport channel the sides are also negotiating for the transfer
of Ciprian Deac. (translated by Danitel Bilt)
