The Romanian table tennis team won silver at the European
Championships hosted by Malmö, Sweden, after losing to Germany in the final,
3-0. We recall Romania had won silver at the previous edition hosted in 2021 by
Cluj-Napoca.


In news from judo, Mircea Croitoru won silver in the +100kg
category on Sunday at the European Open in Sarajevo. Croitoru lost the final to
Germany’s Marvin Belz. On Saturday, the Cuban-born Romanian wrestler Amanda
Zuaznabar-Torres won bronze in the 63kg category. Seven athletes represented
Romania in this year’s edition.


This weekend saw matches counting towards the women’s
Champions League in handball. In Group B, Rapid Bucharest won 26-25 against
Zagłębie Lubin of Poland at home. The top scorer for Rapid was Orlane Kanor of
France, with seven goals. On Sunday, in Group A, CSM Bucharest lost 24-26 to
Bietigheim of Germany away from home. Cristina Neagu scored the most goals for
CSM, 5.


The Romanian rugby team sustained the second defeat at the
World Rugby Cup in France. The Oaks lost to the defending champions South
Africa, the Springboks winning 76-0. Romania will next take on Scotland on
September 30 in a match hosted by Lille.


This weekend also saw matches counting towards the Romanian
Football Superleague. On Friday, Universitatea Cluj won 1-0 against UTA Arad,
while FCU Craiova 1948 won 1-0 against Dinamo Bucharest away from home. On
Saturday, Universitatea Craiova won 2-1 against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe at home.
On Sunday, FC Hermannstadt won 3-1 against FC Voluntari, while Oțelul Galați
drew 0-0 against Rapid Bucharest on home turf. In the round’s highlight match,
FCSB won 1-0 against Farul Constanța away from home. On Monday, Poli Iași is
playing FC Botoșani, while CFR Cluj will go up against Petrolul Ploiești. FCSB
tops the league tables with 21 points, followed by Universitatea Craiova with
