It’s news from rugby now, as this past Saturday in Bucharest Romania’s national rugby team was thrashed in the test match against the US, 5-31. This is the Unites States’ 7th win against Romania, in 9 games played. The Unites States also walked away with the Pershing Cup, a trophy offered by the Romanian Rugby Federation as of 2014, for the matches pitting Romania’s national squad against the US.

We carry on with news from men’s handball, as on Saturday, Dobrogea Sud Constanta defeated Swedish opponents Malmo, 23-22. The match counted towards the first leg of the EHF Cups’ third preliminary round. On Sunday, CSM Bucharest secured a position in the Challenge Cup’s round of 16, having secured a home win against Cypriot opponents Parnassos Strovolou, 47-14. The game counted towards the second leg of the competition’s third preliminary round. We recall that on Saturday, also on home turf, in Bucharest, CSM also won, 32-24. In the Champions League on Sunday, Dinamo Bucharest sustained a dramatic defeat by Norwegian challengers Elverum away from home, 29-28. Elverum fatefully scored from a 7-meter throw, in the last second of the game. Dinamo Bucharest are thus 3rd-palced in the league’s group D, on a par with 4th-placed Elverum, which has a poorer goal average.

And now, news from women’s handball. CSM Bucharest are at the top of the table in the Champions League’s group D, according to the final rankings. In Bucharest on Sunday, CSM trounced German challengers Bietigheim, 32-24. In January, in the competition’s second main group, CSM face Hungarian side Gyor, Slovenia’s Krim Ljubljana and German side Thuringer. Two other Romanian teams have got through to the EHF Cup’s group stage. In the last preliminary round, Magura Cisnadie defeated Zvezda Zvenigorod on home turf this past Sunday, 26-18. Holders CSM Craiova secured a 19-18 home win against Borussia Dortmund, having also secured a win away from home, 19-17. The Romanian domestic championship’s current leader CSM Ramnicu Valcea has sustained a double-legged defeat by Danish challengers Ikast, 22-16 away and 21-19 on home court, this past Sunday in Valcea.
