The Romanian men’s handball team Dobrogea Sud
Constanta won their first victory in the EHF Cup’s group stage. The Romanians
beat the Spanish team Liberbank Cuenca, 34-26. After the first three rounds, FC
Porto rank first in Group C with 6 points, followed by Denmark’s Holstebro,
Dobrogea Sud and Cuenca with 2 points each. Dobrogea Sud’s next fixture in the
competition will be an away match against Liberbank Cuenca, scheduled for March
3.

We carry on with news from women’s handball. CSM
Bucharest has said in a press release that it wants to keep Cristina Neagu in
the team for the next seasons as well. CSM Bucharest, upon Neagu’s and her
agent’s request, has made a counteroffer and is now waiting for the player’s
decision. CSM Bucharest has specified that the offer for the new contract is
within the limits of the previous contract, in terms of payment, accommodation,
health insurance and training conditions. The Club has reminded that at
present, Cristina Neagu, who is recovering from an injury, has the cost of
treatment covered in keeping with the contract in place.

According to the media, Neagu’s agent has asked
for an increase in her monthly salary from 17,500 euros to 20,000 euros. CSM
Bucharest has answered it cannot afford to pay more, saying in a press release:
by Government’s political decision, as reflected in this year’s budget bill,
Romania’s capital city is to receive some 180 million euros less, which amounts
to 25% of Bucharest’s budget, and this requires a reassessment of all of the City
Hall’s expenses. […] The Bucharest City Hall reiterates its support for the
development of mass sport and high performance sport, but it cannot cover, this
year at least, increased expenditure that may create obvious discrepancies
between the allocations for sport and the allocations for other important
sectors aimed at developing the city and improving the daily life of the people
of Bucharest.
