Romania’s national fifteen has
ended in the third place the 2023 edition of the continental competition Rugby
Europe Championship.

In the bronze final held in Spain,
The Oaks outperformed the host country 31 – 25. Marius Simionescu, Cristi
Chirica, Gabriel Pop and Gabriel Rupanu scored four tries for the Romanian side
while Paul Popoaia and Vladut Popa have converted a couple of penalty tries. Georgia
won the competition for the sixth time in a row after a 38-11 win against
Portugal.

Last weekend saw the first round
of the qualifying play-offs for the quarterfinals of the women’s Champions
League. In Slovenia, local side Krim Ljubljana on Sunday outperformed Rapid
Bucharest 29 – 24. The best player of the Romanian side was the French Orlane
Kanor, who scored five times. Eliza Buceschi and Spanish Alicia Fernandez, also
managed good shows during the match each scoring four goals.

That was Rapid’s first
international match with Danish coach Kim Rasmussen at the helm. We recall that
in 2016 Rasmussen coached CSM Bucharest into winning the Champions League
trophy. The return game will be played next Sunday. If Rapid beat Krim, they
will be playing the trophy holder Norwegian side Vipers Kristiansand, in the competition’s quarters.

Let’s now have a look at the
latest leg of the Romanian football championship.

FSCB Bucharest versus Universitatea
Craiova ended in a one-all draw, while in Ovidiu, on the Romanian Black Sea
coast, local side Farul secured a 2-1 win against Sepsi Sf. Gheorghe. In Cluj,
western Romania, CFR versus Rapid Bucharest ended in a two-all draw. Farul tops
the table with 35 points followed by CFR with 33.

In other matches on Friday, FC
Voluntari ended in a one-all draw their match against Hermannstadt, while in
Ploiesti, southern Romania, local side Petrolul secured a 1-0 win against UTA.
On Saturday, FC Botosani also clinched a 1-0 win against Chindia Targoviste.
