The 6th International Grand Prix Nova Radio Drama Festival
57 radio drama and acoustic art productions from 23 countries on four continents have entered the Grand Prix Nova competition

Over June 4-9, Radio Romania organizes the 6th International Grand Prix Nova Radio Drama Festival, the only festival of radio productions rewarding audio innovation. That was also underscored by the President Director General of Radio Romania, Georgica Severin upon the opening of the festival:
“It is quite a special moment for Radio Romania because this edition of the festival takes place with the public radio celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2018. This figure means continuity for Radio Romania. We are the voice of history as well as the voice of the present. The Grand Prix Nova Festival is the latest expression of our interest in actuality, innovation and creativeness in radio productions.”
The festival takes place under the patronage of Her Royal Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Royal Crown. 57 radio drama and acoustic art productions from 23 countries on four continents have entered the Grand Prix Nova competition. Attila Vizauer, editor-in-chief at the National Radio Drama Department has more:
“This year, productions from Malaysia, Australia, Georgia and Iran and lots of productions from Europe, the USA and Canada have entered the competition. As from this year there are three sections: Radio Drama including up to 60 minutes shows, Short Forms — short shows of up to 10 minutes and a new section of binaural productions giving the impression that the sound surrounds the listeners.”
During the festival, you can listen to the competing radio productions on the site www.eteatru.ro The jury is made up of five international personalities; its president is the Finnish director, playwright and actress Soila Valkama. Several Romanian independent productions have for the first time entered the competition this year. One of them, “Plato Time” starting out from “The Republic” by Plato is a Semi Silent production participating in the Short Forms section. Its producer is musicologist and journalist Maria Balabas:
“It is the most personal form related to Plato’s ideas referring to the actor’s role and the relationship between the actor and the audience. These ideas can be transposed in sound in original ways due to modern-day techniques.”
A number of workshops and meetings with professional radio broadcasters and the EBU Radio Drama Workshops are also organized during the Grand Prix Nova International Festival.
