More hospital beds for patients with coronavirus
In Romania, the number of infections with the novel coronavirus has increased significantly and more hospital beds are needed.

Romanian authorities are making efforts to assist the patients infected with coronavirus, by supplementing the number of beds in the intensive care units and by increasing the capacity of the dedicated hospitals. At national level, some facilities are reconfigured and the destination of several medical units is being modified. The military modular hospital ROL 2 set up within the premises of the Ana Aslan Institute of Bucharest has resumed admissions for patients with coronavirus after the unit was reconfigured. Some 167 beds, of which 23 for anesthesia and intensive care and 56 for patients with mild symptoms have been added. For that, 30 containers for medical accommodation and 16 containers equipped with shower and toilets were set up. Another 64 beds are for patients with mild symptoms. There is also a buffer area with a capacity of 24 beds for the isolation of people waiting for the Covid-19 test results.
Also in Bucharest, 10 more medical staff have been transferred to Elias Hospital, with a view to rendering operational the intensive care unit of the modular hospital built on the premises of the Elias Hospital, with funds from donors and NGOs. In the city of Targu Mures, in central Romania, the modular hospital near the University of Medicine can treat an additional 20 patients in a critical state, in the intensive care unit there. The unit was initially aimed to treat mild cases. In Cluj Napoca, in the north west, the recovery hospital will only treat patients with coronavirus, after a surge in new infections in the area. The unit has 400 beds and has functional epidemiological circuits and experienced staff. At the same time, authorities have increased the capacity of the Hospital of Infectious Diseases by 11 beds. In the south-east of Romania, in Mangalia, the Municipal Hospital has started taking in patients with coronavirus in the 36 beds available.
The Avram Iancu Hospital in Oradea, in the north-west, with a capacity of 164 beds, is treating only patients with coronavirus. In Hargita, in the centre, local authorities have ordered the setting up of a new modular unit with 30 beds, near the Emergency Hospital, to prevent an increase in the number of infections. In the city of Iasi, in the east, the Hospital of Infectious Diseases will be supported in the treatment of patients infected with Covid-19 by the Military Hospital in the city, with 28 beds. Doctors working in all these medical units are urging people to respect the rules and to understand how serious the situation is. (Translated by Elena Enache)
