“Together we can defeat the pandemic! Whats in the vaccine?” is the slogan under which the Romanian Government started on Thursday a communication campaign aimed to convince a larger number of citizens to get vaccinated. The action is taking place against the background of the number of daily vaccinations dropping to 70,000, of which only one third new immunisations, the rest being boosters. So far, some 4.2 million Romanians have received at least one dose of anti-Covid-19 vaccine, which questions the possibility of reaching herd immunity.

Even so, in Romania the pandemic is in obvious regression, which allowed the lifting of several restrictions. “We come up with an emotion-based approach, because vaccination is not just statistics, its common good that we need in order to return to a normal life. Every Romanian who has not yet been vaccinated should think about what they are missing, at how their life will change if they got vaccinated: see their parents more often, return to school, go on vacation without fear “, the prime minister Florin Cîţu explained.

During the campaign, developed with support from UNICEF and other partner organizations, 11 spots will be used: three general and eight targeting specific social groups, such as pupils, grandmothers, mothers, tourists or youth. The information campaign did not cost the Government anything, as the concept and production costs were covered by its partners. The spots will be broadcast for six months with support from the media and the National Audiovisual Council, and online the campaign will be run by Google. “We need everybody for this campaign. Everybody can convince somebody else to get vaccinated. Its our common effort, only together we can defeat this pandemic. We get the jab and we can resume our lives as they were before”, the Prime Minister said.

Currently, Romania has enough doses of vaccines approved by the EU, and people need just an ID in order to get the jab. “There is no excuse now for not being able to move on with this campaign”, Florin Citu also stressed. The creative concept is based on the question Whats in the vaccine? but the answer does not refer to ingredients or chemical elements, but what the vaccine means to every citizen and how it can help people resume their normal lives.

Deputy Prime Minister Dan Barna has announced that he will get personally involved in the campaign launched on Thursday, stating that, basically, the vaccine contains the freedom to enjoy life. “Its the only way and the only option to overcome and forget about restrictions. Vaccination is the only solution”, Barna stressed. The Government has urged all TV and radio stations, and the online environment, to support this campaign. (MI)
