A new football season kicks off on Saturday with the Supercup game pitching the en titre champions, FCSB, against the winners of Romania’s Cup, CFR Cluj

Football lovers in Romania are getting ready for a fresh football season, which kicks off as usual with a match for Romania’s Supercup pitching on Saturday FCSB against CFR Cluj. FCSB is a Supercup record holder with 7 trophies, and six lost finals.
Now the eleven coached by Elias Charalambous will be fighting for the Supercup after having clearly won the domestic football championship. In the play-offs FCSB secured seven wins out of the ten matches played, three draws and ended the competition 9 points ahead the side on the second position. FCSB managed to put up good shows in the European cups as well. It got 4 wins out of 8 matches in the Europa League; they outperformed the Greek side, PAOK Thessaloniki in the play-offs and were stopped in the round of sixteen by the French side Olympique Lyon. After winning the Superleague, FCSB provided several footballers to the national sides, which played in various European competitions. Then the team went on a training tour in the Netherlands. There the Romanian footballers played two matches, which they won, 3-2 against Almere City and 2-0 against FC Utrecht.
The CFR Cluj’s prize closet includes four Supercups and also four lost finals. The side coached by Dan Petrescu this year won Romania’s Cup, after a 3-2 win against Hermannstadt in the finals. CFR came second in the Superleague’s ranking. They lost two play-off matches, one to Universitatea Cluj and another one to FCSB.
After the Cup’s finals and the short holiday that followed, CFR went to Austria where they played four matches. They won 4-2 against Slovakian side, Slovan Bratislava, and 3-0 against the Czechs from České Budějovice. They also won 2-0 against the Hungarian side Debrecen. The game against the Austrians from Graz ended in a two-all draw.
