Romania’s football side has resumed its qualification campaign for the World Cup due next year in the USA, Mexico and Canada. On Friday our footballers will be up against Canada in a friendly match, while the fifth World Cup qualifying game will take place on Tuesday against the representative of Cyprus.

Romania presently ranks third in Group H after two wins and two defeats.

Our footballers clinched a 5-1 away win against San Marino and a 2-0 home victory against Cyprus. They lost at home to Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 and Austria 2-1. After the match on Tuesday in Cyprus, they will be taking on Austria in a home match.

Ianis Hagi is among the players who have not been summoned for the matches of Friday and Tuesday. The famous Romanian midfielder hasn’t played in an official match for quite some time now and his contract with Scottish side Glasgow Rangers has come to an end. So, the famous Romanian selector Mircea Lucescu decided to give him some time to find a football club.

A couple of days ago, sports papers announced that the young Hagi would be playing for Turkish side Alanyaspor, a team, which ranked 12th in the Turkish championship last season.

Turkish city Istanbul is this weekend seeing the Balkan Table Tennis Championship, a competition where the Romanian team has so far managed a flawless participation. In the women’s competition, our players lost no match against Bulgaria, Serbia and Albania, which they actually beat 3-0. In the men’s contest, our athletes secured a 3-0 win against Kosovo and a 3-1 against Italy.

The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava is this weekend hosting the European Junior Judo Championships, which also involves Romanian participation. We recall that our judokas didn’t manage to step on the podium at the World Championship for Cadets held last week in Sofia.
