Only one athlete is still representing Romania at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Alin Firfirică is the last chance of the Romanian delegation to a medal in Tokyo. He will participate in the discus throw event on Saturday. Romanian athletes have not made it to finals in the aforementioned competition yet.

On Tuesday, Andreea Ana won bronze in the 55 kilogram category of the World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb. Another athlete close to the podium was Alexandra Anghel, but she was defeated in the match for the bronze medal of the 72 kilogram category by Zelu Li of China. The last Romanian athlete in the competition is Patrik Iulian Gordan, who will be fighting in the 87 kilogram category of the Greek-Roman event.

The World Rowing Championships kicks off in Shanghai, China, on Sunday. For the first time in the competition’s history the event will include mixed teams in the double scull and eights races. Rowers from Romania will be participating in five women and six men’s races.

European handball competitions for women have paused for a while and Romania’s national side is capitalizing on this recess with two friendlies against the en titre champions, France

The two sides met in Oradea, western Romania on Thursday, when France won 32-27, and will play the return game also in Oradea on Saturday.

This weekend will be seeing matches counting towards the 10th leg of the domestic football championship. On Friday, FC Botoșani takes on FCSB, while o Saturday, FC Argeş plays Universitatea Cluj and Oţelul Galaţi, Universitatea Craiova.

On Sunday Unirea Slobozia will be up against Petrolul Ploieşti, CFR Cluj plays UTA and Rapid Bucharest will be playing Hermannstadt.

The leg’s last matches are to take place on Monday, when Csikszereda plays Metaloglobus and Dinamo takes on Farul Constanta. Craiova tops the table with 23 points, followed by Rapid with 19 and Dinamo with 18.
