At the Rowing World Championships taking place in Shanghai, China, the Romanian delegation’s tally now includes four medals. After yesterday’s women’s pair gold and men’s pair silver, Friday started with the men’s double sculls final, where Romania was represented by Olympic champions Andrei Cornea and Marian Enache. The race was won by Poland, followed by Serbia and Ireland. The Romanian boat finished sixth.
Next came the women’s four. The crew made up of Ancuţa Bodnar, Geanina Juncănariu, Adriana Adam, and Amalia Bereş won silver medals. The Romanians started cautiously but pushed hard in the second half of the race. They advanced remarkably into second place and came close to the leading United States boat, but crossed the finish line 0.73 seconds behind the Americans. New Zealand came in third.
Silver medals also went to the men’s four crew, consisting of Ştefan Berariu, Sergiu Bejan, Andrei Mândrilă, and Ciprian Tudosă. They were outpaced only by Great Britain, while the Netherlands won the bronze. The last finals are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
