The best women’s handball sides of the last edition of the Romanian handball championships, CSM Bucharest, Corona Brașov and Gloria Bistrița, obtained victories in the National League on Wednesday. CSM clinched a 32 – 27 win against Rapid Bucharest in a match that was balanced until the last five minutes.
When it was 27 – 26, the en titre champions scored five goals. Danish Anne Mette Hansen was the best scorer with 9 goals. The Hungarian player Dorina Korsós, managed 6 goals for Rapid.Vice-champions Corona Brașov also outperformed Dunărea Brăila with the same score. On the 37th minute, Dunărea had a 19-17 lead but received six goals in a row and the match ended 30 – 27. Serbian player Katarina Krpež Šlezak scored 11 goals for Corona. Braila’s best player was the Croatian Dejana Milosavljević, who scored 6 goals.
30 – 27 was the scoreline of Gloria Bistrița versus CSM Slatina. Japanese player, Asuka Fujita, scored 7 goals for Gloria, and the Hungarian Tamara Pál, managed 8 goals for the hosts. Corona tops the table with 10 points out of five games, followed by CSM with 8 points out of 4 matches.
In the Champions League’s Group A, this weekend Gloria plays the Hungarian side Győr in an away game on Saturday. The Hungarian champions are first in the group with 3 wins out of 3 matches, the same as French side Metz, which comes second, with a lower goal average. Gloria ranks third with two wins and a defeat. In group B, on Sunday in Bucharest, CSM takes on Croatian side, Podravka Koprivnica. The visitors are ranking second in the standings, with two wins and a defeat. The Romanian champions have clinched only one win, lost twice and now rank fifth in the group.
We end with the EHF European League, which will see the second round of the second qualifying leg. Rapid Bucharest will be playing on their own turf on Saturday the Austrian side Hypo Niederösterreich; Rapid won the first match away 32 – 24.
