Radio Day – All Radio Romania stations celebrated on Saturday, November 1, 97 years since the first broadcast of the public radio through special editions, distinguished guests, dialogues with listeners and a joint reflection on the role of radio in a constantly changing world. Radio Romania International announced a new platform accessible at www.romaniainternational.radio. The platform includes podcasts, mainly audio, but also video, from RRI’s own production, as well as co-productions in which RRI has been involved, for now in Romanian, English, French, Spanish and Italian. Political and cultural figures hailed the 97 years of sound history of the public radio. Credibility and balance are the benchmarks that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan appreciated at the Romanian radio station. Radio Romania is the most important press institution in the country, said the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu. The Minister of Culture, Andras Demeter, former president of Radio Romania, sees in the national radio station a balanced voice in a period in which – he said – superficiality and lack of documentation prevail. For the president of the Romanian Academy, Ioan-Aurel Pop, the public radio is a permanent actor in the act of culture and a source of trust. And the Royal House of Romania conveyed that the Public Radio has reflected the evolution and aspirations of the nation, being a witness and chronicler of the history of modern Romania.

Moldova – The head of the Romanian government, Ilie Bolojan, congratulated, on Saturday, the new government of the Republic of Moldova led by Alexandru Munteanu, expressing his confidence that the two teams will continue to work together with determination for the good of the citizens on both banks of the Prut River. Ilie Bolojan also said that he and the government he leads will continue to support the efforts of the neighboring Romanian-speaking Republic of Moldova to open accession negotiations with the European Union as soon as possible. The new government in Chişinău was sworn in on Saturday, in the presence of the head of state, Maia Sandu, after, on Friday evening, the Parliament granted it a vote of confidence and approved the government’s program, which establishes as a priority objective the completion of the accession negotiations with the European Union by 2028, the modernization of the economy, the consolidation of the rule of law and the increase in the Moldovans’ living standards.

Bistrița – The city of Bistrița (central Romania) has been officially included in the newly established UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of Architecture. The announcement was made on Friday, on World Cities Day. A total of 58 cities appear on the list, including Gdansk, Kuala Lumpur, Kyiv, New Orleans and Varna. Bistrița thus joins other cities in the network, such as Iași (east), included in 2023 in the field of Literature, and Cluj-Napoca (northwest), included in the network in 2021 for Film. With these new designations, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network now includes over 400 cities from over 100 countries.

Visit – The German Federal Minister of State for Europe, Gunther Krichbaum, was received on Friday by the Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and the Foreign Minister Oana Ţoiu, on the occasion of his official visit to Romania. During the talks, among other things, the parties appreciated the excellent level of bilateral relations and reiterated their commitment to deepening cooperation in multiple areas of mutual interest both bilaterally and within the European Union. The officials of the two countries also reconfirmed the strong bilateral ties due to the integration of the Romanian community in Germany, of the German minority in Romania and of the ethnic Germans from Romania settled in Germany, as well as the robust economic cooperation, Germany being Romania’s main trade and investment partner.

Explosion – Three people were placed in preventive detention on Friday, for 30 days, in the case of the explosion that occurred on October 17 in a block of flats in a Bucharest neighborhood. Then, 3 residents died, 15 were injured and dozens of families were left homeless. Two floors were completely destroyed, and the entire block was severely damaged, a high school and other nearby residential buildings being affected. The three arrested people are employees of two companies charged with negligent destruction, because they did not properly fulfill their legal or work obligations regarding the identification of the type of malfunction of the block’s natural gas supply system, a malfunction that led to the disaster.
