Declaration to support Ukraine
Romanian senators and deputies adopted a declaration in support of neighbouring Ukraine.

The Romanian Parliament
adopted a declaration to support the neighbouring Ukraine in the context of the
first anniversary, on the 24th February, of Russia’s war of
aggression against this country. Parliament reiterated Romania’s firm
support for the heroic fight of Ukraine and its people and the respect for the
courage, dignity and resistance demonstrated by the Ukrainian army and the
civilian population.
The declaration states that the Russian
Federation unilaterally and without provocation started a war of aggression
against Ukraine, escalating previous violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial
integrity through the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014. Romanian senators
and deputies are warning of the deterioration of the humanitarian tragedy of
the Ukrainian civilian population, the suffering of millions of people
unprecedented in the history of Europe post-WWII being deliberately caused by
the Russian aggressor as part of a premeditated, cynical and brutal strategy to
crush the entire Ukrainian nation. Romanian MPs also reiterated Romania’s
unyielding support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity
within its internationally recognised borders. They emphasise that all attempts
to change Ukraine’s borders by force, through decisions to illegally annex
parts of Ukraine, ever since 2014, are in stark violation of the UN Charter and
international law.
In light of this, the Romanian Parliament
requests that Moscow ends the war without delay and urgently withdraws all its
troops and military equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine as
recognised internationally. Last but not least, Romanian senators and deputies
request that the Russian Federation immediately puts an end to its rhetoric
concerning the use of nuclear weapons and its actions of intimidation against
other states, as well as its groundless accusations concerning the alleged use of
biological weapons by Ukraine.
The declaration adopted by the Romanian
Parliament further states that Romanian senators and deputies support the need
for Romania’s substantial engagement in the future post-conflict reconstruction
of the Ukrainian state and for boosting support, in particular for the civilian
population. Romanian MPs also voice the need for the Romanian state to equally
concentrate its efforts on supporting the EU accession process of Ukraine, the
Republic of Moldova and Georgia. (CM)
