Backed by hundreds of cheerful fans, Romania’s national handball side advanced to the next stage of the World Women’s Handball Championship underway in Germany and the Netherlands

Romania’s female handball side has qualified for the main group of the World Women’s Handball Championship underway in Germany and the Netherlands. The trainees of coach Ovidiu Mihaila ended in the second position of Group A with four points after Denmark but ahead of Japan and Croatia.
On Monday, in the game, which decided the group’s winner, the Danish side clinched a 39-31 win against Romania. The best Romanian player was Sorina Grozav, with 9 goals scored. Romania enters the main group with two points and on Wednesday will be playing Hungary, the winner of Group B. On Friday they will be taking on Senegal and on Sunday, December 7, on Switzerland. The first two sides in the group will be playing in the quarterfinals.
Now let’s have a look at the latest from men’s basketball competitions. Unfortunately, Romania lost the two matches it played last week in the preliminaries of World Championship 2027.
On Thursday, our side lost to Greece 91-64 in Thessaloniki, then on Sunday in Pitesti, southern Romania, they lost to Montenegro 80-75. They will have their next match on February 27 against Portugal away.
The regional ice hockey contest Erste Liga had a new leader. ACSH Gheorgheni fell to the second position after a 6-1 defeat by the Hungarian side Budapest Jégkorong Akadémia in Remetea on Sunday. The champions managed to win the first 12 matches in the present season, but got only 2 wins out of the next six games. The new league’s leader is Corona Brașov, which on Sunday secured a 5-1 win against Jegesmedvék Miskolc.
Last weekend saw the matches of the 18th leg of the Romanian Football Superleague. On Friday, Rapid secured a 4-1 home win against Csikszereda. On Saturday in Mioveni, the local side, FC Argeș, clinched a 3-0 win against CFR Cluj, while Dinamo Bucharest obtained a 1-0 home win against țelul Galați.
On Sunday UTA outperformed Hermannstadt 2-1 in Sibiu, while FC Botoșani secured a 1-0 away victory against Unirea Slobozia; in Ovidiu, FCSB obtained a 2-1 win in their game against Farul Constanța. On Monday, Petrolul Ploiești obtained a 4-1 home victory against Metaloglobus while Universitatea Cluj ended in a goaless draw their game against Universitatea Craiova. Rapid tops the ranking with 38 points followed by FC Botoșani with 36 and Dinamo with 34.
